FILLING a vital need in the community for people who care for those with dementia is a carers’ cafe which opens its doors for the first time in Haslemere, this week.
The café opens at Marjorie Gray Hall’s Hunter Centre, in Grayswood Road, on Tuesday, from 10.30am-12.30pm.
Aimed at anyone caring for someone with the condition, people are welcome to come and meet others for support and advice whether they are currently visiting the Marjorie Gray Hall.
Anne Downing, the chairman of the trustees of The Hunter Centre, said: “We feel many people could benefit from talking to others also coping with caring for their loved ones who have dementia.
“Apart from putting people in touch and arranging regular social get togethers, we would like to find out what information or support they would like and then we can perhaps arrange talks from relevant people.”
Saved from closure when the Alzheimer’s Society called time on the lifeline support service earlier this year, thanks to a huge campaign of support a new charity was set up to secure the lifeline organisation and its much needed future in the town.
