SO concerned was a young pupil from The Petersfield School about the events in Haiti that she decided to do something to help.

Kitty Lloyd, a year eight pupil at the Cranford Road school, organised a cake sale to raise money for the disaster fund. Together with friends Flora Burleigh and Emily Lomax, she raised almost £200.

It also helped boost a whole school collection to nearly £1,000 by Monday of this week, with more funds to come.

Headteacher Nigel Poole said: "The girls put in a lot of effort and all cakes were sold very quickly.  Students were also generous with their donations to the whole school collection this week.  Our thoughts are with the people of Haiti."
