LAST year's Alton Carnival, held as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, has led to a decision by Alton Town Council to reinstate it as an annual event.
Started in 1969 by the late Ron Lintott and later taken over by the Alton Lions who ran it until the mid-1990s, the Alton Carnival was resurrected last year to wide acclaim.
It will be held this year on Sunday, May 26, with a procession led by the Horndean Band and the Alton Herald Carnival Queen leaving The Butts at 3pm to make its way along Butts Road, High Street, Normandy Street, Anstey Road and Anstey Lane, before arriving at Anstey Park at 4.30pm.
A collection will be held during the procession, in aid of more play equipment for the Public Gardens. Music will entertain during the evening at Anstey Park, with a Walls Funfair, market and refreshment stalls, and fireworks at 10pm.
