RADIAN and Whitehill Town Council have donated cash to the Whitehill and Bordon Town Partnership to help fund its annual summer fun day next month.
The popular free event will take place outside the Forest Community Centre in Bordon on Saturday, August 12. Radian housing group, based in Eastleigh, has given a community grant of £750 and Whitehill Town Council has donated £400.
Last year’s Summer Fun Day was attended by more than 1,000 visitors. This year the organisers are hoping to attract even more people to the growing event.
Leisure groups, dance classes and sporting clubs have been invited to provide family activities.
Both Radian and the town council’s contribution will go partly towards the cost of hiring a walkabout act, bringing some professional theatre to the day for the first time.
With audience participation and an “unforgivably cheesy soundtrack”, The Legwarmerz promise to go on a mission to bring “free fun fitness” to the day.
“Believe it or not, I used to wear legwarmers in the eighties,” said Rob Allerston, director of The Phoenix Theatre.
Some of the other activities on the day include crafts, bungee trampolining, birds of prey, bouncy castles and slides, nail painting, a bike-skills session and a police car to explore. There will be a low-cost barbecue run by 1st Headley Scouts, ploughman’s lunches served by the Bordon Food Bank and free tea, coffee and cold drinks at the St Mark’s Church and Forest Community Centre. “This is a great day to find out about organisations that operate in the local area,” said organiser Claire Coxwell.
