THOUSANDS of pounds has been raised to help rebuild a nursery after a fire hit the Grade II Listed Hale Methodist Church.

The fire caused damage to the roof of the church and destroyed Greenways Nursery School’s sheds in the church garden, where toys were stored.

But now, just a week on from the incident, more than £2,500 has been raised in support of the nursery and will be used to buy books, toys, learning resources and outdoor equipment.

Greenways is also set to reopen at a temporary location next week.

It is believed the blaze started when debris from a neighbour’s bonfire set a church shed alight.
