A 300-YEAR-OLD Cedar of Lebanon tree in the grounds of Farnham Library had to be felled when it was damaged in high winds in October.

A consultation is under way to replace it – although Cllr Andy MacLeod said a Cedar of Lebanon was not listed in Surrey County Council’s options.

However, Cllr George Hesse told the meeting the public can ask for a like-for-like replacement.

He said: “People who respond to the online consultation can open another box and make their own suggestion.

“I would love to see two Cedar of Lebanon planted, making an arch, and then using the stump in some way, either carved to make a bench or levelled to make a base for sculpture.”

But hurry – the consultation, which has been running since December 3, concludes tomorrow (Friday).
