THE Probus Club of Farnham celebrated 50 years since it was formed in April 1969 with a special lunch at Farnham Castle.

The meal was attended by 88 members, associate lady members and guests, with pre-lunch drinks served in the castle garden, allowing views over the town.

Speaking after lunch, chairman Anthony Porten outlined the origins of Probus clubs, the initiative for the formation of the Farnham club and its history since 1969.

He was pleased to note 13 past presidents were present, including Patrick Lloyd who had held that office in 1993, before the club had celebrated its quarter century.
