Fernhurst Beaver Scout Leader Catriona Gibbon was presented with her Duke of Edinburgh Award by recently appointed Haslemere District Commissioner Keith Clayton (pictured).
Keith, who owns Clayton Jewellers, in Haslemere, succeeds Fr Jonathan How, who acted as temporary district commissioner until a permanent appointment could be made.
Catriona, whose parents Sue and Dave are also leaders of Fernhurst Scout Group, worked hard for four years to achieve her gold award, starting in 2013 with a training expedition in the Peak District that culminated in four days of hiking.
She also completed a year of volunteering, during which she obtained her warrant as a Beaver Scout leader, and spent a year not only learning to play the piano but also teaching pupils as well.
Further physical challenges included climbing every week for six months, and a residential experience to Tanzania to improve a school.
On the day of her presentation, she successfully completed a wet four-mile hike with Fernhurst Cubs and Scouts from Petersfield station to Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
