A FIRE investigation into the blaze which devastated a listed, historic building in Haslemere High Street has established the fire started on the ground floor of Headcase barbershop.

A report in last week’s Herald stated in error the fire started above the shop, for which we apologise.

A Surrey Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed this week an investigation had established the fire started accidentally, on the ground floor.

Headcase has been trading from the Hair Chair premises behind Waitrose’s car park after several local businesses rallied around with offers of help.

Eight fire engines and two specialist tenders were required to put out the fire in a seven-hour operation.
