‘WILD neighbourhoods’ is the theme of Surrey Wildlife Trust’s annual 30 Days Wild challenge - and this year it’s backed by Surrey-born TV celebrity Nick Baker.

The naturalist and television presenter is starring in the charity’s campaign video, urging everyone to go wild every day this June.

“Ever since I was a small boy I’ve been fascinated by wildlife and the natural world - I was born in Surrey and grew up in Sussex, but spent much time in Croydon exploring with my grandparents,” said Nick.

“It’s so important for us all to have regular contact with nature – I know it makes me feel happier and healthier. Taking the 30 Days Wild challenge is a brilliant way to reconnect with your own wild side – so why not get out and go wild this June?”

The 30 Days Wild challenge asks everyone to do something wild every day in June - nearly 7,000 people in Surrey took part last year, including more than 5,000 school children and some 250,000 people joined in nationally.

“We’d love everyone to discover their wild side where they live and work this summer – you just need to do something wild every single day in June,” said Surrey Wildlife Trust’s Charlotte Magowan.

“Whether you sow some wildflowers to help the bees, take time out to listen to the birds, explore a wild place or paddle in a stream – getting closer to nature is sunshine for the soul.”

Taking part in 30 Days Wild is free, open to people of all ages and the trust hopes schools, families, businesses, community groups and individuals will all sign up to go wild.

To sign up for a free pack crammed with wild inspiration – including a booklet of ‘Random Acts of Wildness’, a wall chart to record wild activities, stickers and wildflower seeded paper to sow - or book a place on one of the trust’s special wild events, visit the website surreywildlifetrust.org .

There are also special packs for schools with inspiring outdoor lesson plans and giant Random Acts of Wildness cards to get children closer to nature. Business can join in too, with download packs to bring the ‘wild’ to work, including posters, bunting and selfie props.
