MORE 100 young people from 13 local schools and community dance groups are preparing to take part in ‘Winter Move’, an interpretation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on Friday, December 4 at the Farnham Maltings.
The celebration of community dance is being led by The Dance Movement, which is a resident company at the Farnham Maltings. Professional dancers have been working with students since September to devise a number of dances.
Programme director Rachel Palmer said: “The students have been taking part in the dance classes for around two months and they are starting to look really good. Some of the older boys have been cast as wolves and as the weeks have past, we have seen them letting down their guard and really getting into character.
“The community show will be an opportunity for all the students to come together and perform their individual dances as part of one production. Our choreographers will support the dancers and will help to ensure the audience experience an exciting and seamless performance.
“This is a very different and exhilarating way of putting together a show but it has the advantage of giving the dancers the opportunity to take part in a semi-professional community experience.”
Throughout the performance, a film made by filmmaker Gavin Hoare will be played. This will serve as the scenery back-drop and will provide the audience with a sense of where the dancers are in the story.
The performance will start at 7.30pm. Anybody wishing to book tickets can email www.thedancemovement.co.uk.
