A VILLAGE housing association is set to welcome tenants to its first new housing project in 35 years.
Through legacies and generosity the Grayshott and District Housing Association, (G&DHA) has blossomed – but the new property is the first the association has built for more than 30 years.
A much treasured part of the village, Grayshott was chosen last year as the ‘Champion of Champion Villages’ by East Hampshire District |Council, (EHDC).
Now raising the total number of homes to support those in need, and who are committed and connected to the village, to 31, the association board is celebrating being part of the continuity in providing accommodation, which began more than 80 years ago.
G&DHA board of trustees chairman Jan Gale was joined by EHDC Tory leader Ferris Cowper, who is also a councillor representing Grayshott, and other board members, to officially take over the new build.
In 2015, G&DHA celebrated the 80th anniversary of its formation and acknowledged Charlotte Lyndon had galvanised the village to buy the first 12 houses which marked the start of G&DHA’s work
Sadly she died suddenly a year later and the board decided to call the new property ‘Lyndon’ in her memory.
Her vision was to maintain a true rural community embracing all-comers to share and live in the “splendid” village. The association board still endeavours to uphold those values.
The latest build is now complete with new tenants expected soon.
The two-bedroom detached house is set in its own compact and manageable garden, and is in an enviable position close to the recreation ground.
Plans are in the pipeline for the association to build more houses recruiting expertise to help and joining with English Rural Housing Association as a development partner.
