FROM street parties to royal-themed picnics, the sun shone on Saturday’s Royal Wedding celebrations.

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was watched across the country in a day of national festivities.

In and around Farnham, children enjoyed a variety of activities at school and nursery to mark the big day, including a visit from the ‘Queen’, special lunches, dressing up in red, white and blue, their own Royal Weddings and more.

Pupils from St Andrew’s C of E Infant School celebrated the wedding by making and decorating crowns, and even sent a special wedding card to the happy couple.

In a Facebook post, the school said they hoped the card had “taken pride of place on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s mantlepiece”.

Inside the card were pictures of each year group and the message read: “Dear Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, congratulations on your marriage.

“From everyone at St Andrew’s Infant School in Farnham xxx.”

A spokesperson for the school added: “St Andrew’s School would like to congratulate the newly wed couple and hope they live happily ever after.”

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II even made a special visit to St Mary’s C of E Infant School on Thursday as she joined students for their Royal Wedding lunch and shortbread crowns. Children presented Her Majesty with flowers and cheered as she walked along the red carpet greeting the crowds.

Tootsies Day Nursery had their own Royal Wedding at St John’s Church in Hale, with Jasper and Lillie acting as the bride and groom and the vicar teaching the children all about weddings and marriage. After enjoying a slice of wedding cake made by Slice of Pie, the nursery had a celebratory afternoon tea in the garden.

Another wedding was held at Folly Hill Infant School and was attended by a mini Harry and Meghan, a vicar, bridesmaids, page boys, a wedding singer and the Queen.

Members of staff brought in their own wedding dresses to display and the children sang hymns, enjoyed the ceremony and had a street party lunch before cutting the cake.

Pupils at Badshot Lea Village Infant School dressed up in red, white and blue, made crowns and enjoyed a street party in their playground. Not only were they celebrating the Royal Wedding, but their caretaker was also tying the knot over the weekend.

But, it wasn’t just children that got involved in the royal celebrations - there were street parties, buildings draped in the Union Jack flag, nursing home parties and more.

Staff at Anchorstone Nursing Home also dressed up in red, white and blue as they joined residents for their own Royal Wedding celebrations. Pictures, posters and decorations made by residents were everywhere, as well as flags and bunting. After enjoying slices of wedding cake and Union Flag cake, celebrations finished with a sing-a-long and plenty of flag waving.

Residents from Shortheath Crest in Lower Bourne got together and threw a traditional Royal Wedding street party on Saturday. Bunting was strung, games were played and hats were worn as a nod to the official wedding dress code.

Tilford Village Hall was also decorated in bunting and United Jack flags for the special occasion, ready for children from Tilford Meadow Nursery School to celebrate in.
