DESIGNATED ‘memorial trees’ for wind chimes are to be introduced in cemeteries as part on an ongoing improvement programme.

During a Farnham Town Council meeting on July 26, it was agreed by councillors that there should be one designated tree in each cemetery, after members previously discussed wind chimes, balloons and ornaments being placed beyond grave boundaries.

Carole Cockburn, leader of FTC, said: “Some people prefer to grieve in a very uncluttered space while others feel the need to remember their loved one in a more visible way. We are trying to strike a balance.

“There will be quiet spaces to sit for those who seek these but for those who wish to hang wind chimes in memory of a special person, we will ask them to do so on the designated trees.”
