HER Majesty The Queen was congratulated on became the longest-reigning monarch in British sovereign history this week by the chairman of Surrey County Council.

At 5.30pm on Wednesday, Queen Elizabeth II surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria.

And Surrey council’s civic leader, Sally Marks, wrote to Her Majesty congratulating her on reaching the milestone.

Mrs Marks said: “It is a testament to Her Majesty that today there will be no grand celebrations but simply another day in an extraordinary reign of selfless duty, grace and dignity that has earned admiration not only in Britain but across the world.

“On behalf of Surrey, I congratulate Her Majesty on her achievement.”
