CHALLENGERS, a local charity dedicated to providing vital play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people, has announced it is planning to sell the field next to its youth building in St James’s Avenue in Farnham.
There is a play centre and a youth centre in the road which both run schemes for children and young people seven days a week. And now after thousands of hours of play for almost 10 years the buildings, a refurbished Victorian school, are in need of some work.
To do this Challengers needs to raise a significant amount of money so it is able to ensure the buildings continue to offer a high quality and safe place for children.
CEO Laura Sercombe said: “This is a project that we have thought long and hard about because we want to do the right thing for the families that rely on Challengers. Recent research has shown that 51 per cent of disabled children are excluded from play.
“Challengers never excludes any child and this is what makes the services and the charity so vital. We want to invest the money from the sale of the field back into the charity and its long-term sustainability.
“We love the site on St James Avenue and feel part of the Farnham community so are keen to stay for the long term. This project will enable us to do that.”
Challengers has appointed property consultants Vail Williams to deal with the sale of the land.
Further information about the sale, including sales particulars will be available on the Vail Williams website from the end May, or alternatively contact Laura Sercombe at Challengers on [email protected].
