CHILDREN’S charity Challengers which has a soft play centre for disabled children in St James’ Avenue, Farnham, is one of 38 community organisations and charities across the South East to benefit from a share of £30,000 thanks to South East Water’s annual Community Chest Fund.
Challengers will receive £620 of the £30,000 for five disabled children to spend a day at a Challengers scheme. Once the fund closed for applications, the difficult decision of where the money should go was down to a panel of seven members of staff from right across the company who are themselves involved outside of work with charities.
Fiona Jones, customer liaison and support analyst, who sat on the judging panel, said: “We received some great applications from a number of good causes so the judging process this year was the toughest yet. It’s incredibly rewarding to know my contribution has helped support 38 very worthy projects.”
Jo Osborn, head of communications at South East Water, added: “The applications were from a wide range of organisations and charities which were water or environment related, or sought to help the young, old or disadvantaged in our supply area.
“The judging panel decided to award the £30,000 fund to local small projects that need a little extra financial help to make a big difference.”
