THE Grey House School welcomed back a famous face this month for their annual sports day.

The Hartley Wintney school hosted the event on June 10 when European triathlon champion India Lee was the guest of honour.

India only recently became the European champion after winning in Sardinia earlier this year. And she recently added to her achievements by becoming the ETU Elite Triathlon European Champion in Lisbon at the end of May.

The endurance athlete, left the school 18 years ago, and confessed to having missed the beginning of some lessons so she could do extra laps around the running track and added that the day brought back many happy memories for her.

Having seen India achieve what she has, the school still ensure there is a chance for future success with current students by ensuring swimming and running are firmly embedded in the sports curriculum with all children having a weekly swimming lesson and most PE lessons starting with a couple of laps of the track.

The sports day itself also paid homage to the returning champion, with children taking part in their own triathlon.

The three houses who were competing throughout the day for the honour of winning the coveted Sports Cup, Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester, fought hard with many races across track and field, and it was Winchester house which eventually won the cup, and school bragging rights.
