A BALL has raised a whopping £13,000 for children’s charity Dreams Come True.

Sally Powell said the event, which she and her husband Andrew organised, went “amazingly well”.

With a host of entertainment laid on, including music from local band The Standards and a fire eater, the evening gathering at the Alton Maltings Centre last Saturday welcomed more than 100 guests.

Mrs Powell explained that the impressive amount raised was thanks to the generosity of attendees, with a raffle, a Tree of Dreams and myriad donations boosting the pot.

This is the second ball they’ve hosted for Dreams Come True – an “amazing cause” close to Mrs Powell’s heart.

Herself a mother, Mrs Powell said it is particularly emotive to imagine the hardship suffered by those with seriously-ill children.

“When you’re a parent and you have healthy kids you realise how lucky you are,” she added.

Next on the horizon for the Powells’ fundraising efforts is next April’s London Marathon.

Dreams Come True is a UK charity based in Liphook which “fulfils the dreams” of children or young people with life-limiting conditions.
