THE Bordon and Liphook Charity has given vital support to The Furniture Helpline with a donation of £1,250. The Furniture Helpline, which is based at the Woolmer Industrial Estate in Bordon, was recognised by the charity for supporting those in need in East Hampshire, west Surrey and West Sussex. Rising costs, coupled with reduced grants from trusts and other donors, has left The Furniture Helpline struggling financially. Bordon and Liphook Charity chairman Carl Tantum said he was delighted to be able to help a fellow charity, as he recognised the contribution the Furniture Helpline is making to the local community. "We are very much aware that our two charities have much in common, and serve similar customers in financial distress," he said. Chairman of the Furniture Helpline Peter Marsh pointed out the Helpline has to fund a vehicle to collect donated furniture and white electrical goods, and then deliver again to clients in need. He said: "We are doing much to be as self-financing as possible and currently self-generate two-thirds of our income compared to only one third five years ago, but there is still a significant gap to be filled. "East Hampshire District Council and Waverley Borough Council are supportive and generous and we certainly need all the help they can give; we recognise our duty is to stand as far as possible on our own." Carl Tantum and his trustees at the Bordon and Liphook Charity has promised the helpline a donation of £1,250 maximum per quarter for the financial year commencing on April 1. The Furniture Helpline is determined to help more clients with financial problems by making furniture and appliances available to them at very low prices. They are encouraged to view the choice on offer at 66 Woolmer Industrial Estate, Bordon, from Monday to Friday, or call 01420 489000 to learn more.
