IN 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to conquer Mount Everest. In 1998, Bear Grylls became the youngest Briton to have successfully climbed Everest, at the age of 23.
And in March, 2009, 30-year-old Charlie Stopher became the first person from Milland to reach Base Camp, in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF), calling it a tremendous experience and a trip of a lifetime.
