Charlotte Browning bounced back from the disappointment of finishing 10th at last month's Reebok Challenge by leading an Aldershot, Farnham & District one-two-three in the U/15 girls' race at Basingstoke where Saturday's Hampshire League meeting was held.

Her defeat at Margate had ended a long unbeaten spell on the country and it was the winner that day, Leonie Smith, who took the initiative at the War Memorial Park.

When Smith opened a small gap, it looked as though Browning, who usually leads from the start, might struggle again, but she gained control in the second half to win from her club-mate by two seconds in 11mins 49.

Hannah Jones also showed an improvement on recent form to take the third spot in 11-56. Bournemouth's Natalie Real was fourth in 11-59, before another trio of AFD runners: Kiri Nowak (12-10), Vicky Clews (12-12) and Laura Tanner (12-14).

Another winner at Margate, Emma Pallant, managed to continue her sequence in the U/13 age-group. She immediately took Stacey Preston away from the field, eventually finishing with an advantage of five seconds over her team-mate, who clocked 10mins 00, while Louise Eley (10-17) overtook Rebecca Skelton of Basingstoke & Mid Hants (10-19) to complete another AFD one-two-three.

Matt Leslie inflicted a defeat upon Portsmouth's Ben Harding in the U/15 boys' contest. The AFD lad hit the front around halfway. Harding soon retaliated, but the South of England 800 metres champion could not maintain the pressure and was seven seconds down at the finish with his 13mins 01.

Chris Friend (13-02) was third and Stephen Blake (fourth in 13-04) completed AFD's scoring trio.

The next four places went to other members of the club: Ben Wilson (13-05), Sam Crawford (13-22), Luke Bone (13-39) and David Smith (13-57).

Lucy Vaughan (15mins 33) won the senior women's event by 22 seconds from Michaela McCallum of Winchester. Megan Jones, the best U/17, was fifth in 16mins 35 and Sarah Pickett seventh in 16-48 for another AFD triumph.

Only Lee Rodriguez of New Forest Runners prevented Phil Banks from achieving an individual victory for AFD in the senior men's event.

Dan McCarthy completed the frame, before Dan Acheson, seventh, Ali Smith, ninth, and Brian Stopher, tenth, ensured the club did win the team competition.

Karl McCulloch, third in 14mins 33, led AFD to their U/17 men's win. Graham Russ was fourth in 14-42 and Gavin Smith, sixth in 15-02, beat Rob McCarthy by one second for the club's final scoring berth.

Greg Smith, fourth in 12-06, Lee Wilson, fifth in 12-11, and Tom Goddard, seventh in 12-19, comprised the winning U/13 boys' team.
