A TILFORD man has pleaded guilty to stealing £6,000 from a 102-year-old woman, also from Tilford. David Shearman, 65, will be sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on January 30 after admitting the theft of £6,000 from neighbour Rosalie Wren. Mr Shearman, who has lived in Tilford for 14 years, pleaded guilty last month to transferring the money by cheque from Mrs Wren's bank account into his own after befriending her and assisting her with her financial affairs. He remains on bail to the court while he awaits sentencing. Dc Gary Stannard of Surrey Police's public protection investigation unit, said: "Mrs Wren was an elderly woman with Victorian values and had lived alone since the death of her husband during the 1950s. "Although she has not been diagnosed with dementia, she did suffer age-related memory loss. Mr Shearman helped Mrs Wren with many everyday tasks around the home and also took control of her financial affairs. "No cruelty or physical abuse took place but there was an abuse of trust."
