A CHIDDINGFOLD man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after a police chase in the early hours off Saturday, July 28, through Milford and Witley.

Police have issued these photos of some of the items believed to be stolen found in his car when they cornered him at the southbound A3 Thursday slip road at between 3am and 4am.

The 44 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and has been released under investigation.

Officers received a report of a man acting suspiciously near a house on the Petworth Road in Wormley.

They were told that a man was driving a red Volkswagen Bora away from a private driveway at speed around 3am. The vehicle then drove recklessly through Milford and Witley before stopping at the Thursley slip-off on the A3 southbound.

The driver stopped his car and tried to run away but was caught nearby and arrested.

Detective Constable Richard Pegden, who is investigating the incident, said: “Thanks to the quick actions of a local resident this man was swiftly detained by officers. There is no doubt that the actions of this man, his driving and time of night, are highly suspicious.

“What I am keen to ascertain is whether anyone recognises the items pictured. Have you had them stolen from your garage or shed recently? We’ve not received any reports relating to these items and have visited nearby homes to check if the property belongs to the homeowners.

“Did you see or hear anything on Petworth Road in the early hours of Saturday, 28 July? Do you live nearby and have CCTV on your property? You may have caught something, so please get in touch.”

“If you saw anything, or you have any information regarding any of the items pictured, call us on 101 quoting reference number PR/45180080539. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
