CHIDDINGFOLD is set to be put firmly on the map next month when BBC Radio 4's popular Any Questions is broadcast from the village hall.

A panel of four public figures will be the guests of Chiddingfold WI, with the programme transmitted live from the hall in Coxcombe Lane.

The panel, which is not usually announced until a week before the programme, will be questioned on a range of topical issues as well as light-hearted matters, with questions chosen just before the broadcast.

One of the stringent rules of Any Questions is that the panel lists don't see the questions in advance. They hear them for the first time at the same moment as the audience.

Broadcast on Friday, July 27 just after the 8 pm news, the village will become the latest venue for the programme, which was first broadcast on October 12, 1948.

Still popular with Radio 4 listeners, the programme attracts an audience of around 1.5 million, most of whom tune in to the Saturday afternoon repeat, which is followed by Any Answers. The chairman is Jonathan Dimbleby.
