CHILDREN at St Mary’s School in Bentworth have dressed up as their favourite book characters to mark World Book Day.

Designed to encourage and nurture the joys of reading, last week’s celebrations began for the Bentworth children with each class being given a special present of a book written in a different part of the world.

The children have been using their books to inspire learning in lots of creative ways.

The most exciting event was on World Book Day itself, last Thursday, where staff and children dressed up and everyone had fun guessing the different characters.

Year two and year three teacher Josie Macey said: “From Hermione to Gangster Granny, we had them all!”

And children at Privett Montessori Nursery also celebrated World Book Day by dressing as their favourite book characters.

Parents were also invited to come along and read stories to the children.
