THE children of Badshot Lea Infant School have been engaging in the very British activity of growing their own chips.
Through Squire’s Garden Centre in Badshot Lea, the children were just some of the hundreds of participants from multiple schools across the South East attending their own local Squire’s in order to see, after being shown how to take care of their spuds, who could cultivate the greatest yield of potatoes.
The children took their potatoes home after their initial visit in March and returned to the garden centre recently in order to discover who had won from their individual school.
The competition was stiff, especially considering Ground Force’s very own Charlie Dimmock supported the event and was also competing alongside the pupils. Her potatoes weighed in at an impressive 927g.
At Badshot Lea Infants there were in-fact two lucky winners: Pearl Starkey and Matilda Brown who both managed to grow 850g of potatoes each. The girls received a certificate and a special prize from Squires for their valiant efforts.
Of course the real reward for all the children was the converting of these potatoes into glorious chips for the whole school to enjoy.
The children had smiles on their faces as they tucked in and celebrated their budding agricultural prowess.
