HOOK Infant School celebrated the “magic of books” on World Book Day.
The children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters, which included Charlie, Willy Wonka, and a small child-sized ‘golden ticket’ from Roald Dahl’s famous Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel.
Other costumes included Harry Potter, the BFG, Goldilocks accompanied by her own bowl of porridge, and the Tiger that Came to Tea, with his own plate and cutlery.
The teachers also joined in the fun, with each one coming dressed as a Dalmatian, and while not quite reaching 101, they were still accompanied by Cruella de Vil and a dog catcher.
The costumes and the day sparked huge amounts of inspiration and conversation in every classroom throughout the school, fulfilling exactly what the day set out to do.
World Book Day is UNESCO-designated celebration of books and reading, marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
The aim in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with he opportunity to have a book of their own.
More than 14 million book vouchers were sent out which equates to one for nearly every child under the age of 18 in the country.
