YOUNG entrepreneurs at Grayshott Primary School showed off their talents when they took part in an innovative programme designed and delivered by BizSchool Ltd, sponsored by Homes Estate Agents and A&N Chartered Accountants.
Participating pupils were given a comprehensive introduction to the world of business, including modules on global economics, marketing, finance and presentation skills.
The aim of the course was to enable each team in the class to pitch an original business plan and compete for £250 of funding to set up their own enterprise. Teams pitched their ideas to the “Bears’ Cave” judging panel and the winning initiative was awarded the funding to make the winning idea a reality.
Following a professionally organised round of auditions, ‘Talent Today’ was staged on the school’s playing field and an audience of parents and pupils were entertained by pupils from every year group, including dancers, comedians, gymnasts, singers and a variety of musicians.
Dozens of local businesses donated prizes for a raffle and the generous support from the whole community enabled Gold Class, the year six entrepreneurs, to make a profit of £1,082. The pupils are looking forward to spending some of the funds on their end of term class treat having already agreed to donate a substantial sum to Cancer Research UK.
Deputy head Michael Clarke, who also teaches the year six pupils who took part, said: “The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in BizSchool and learned so much. I am very proud of their achievements and how enthusiastic they have been about every aspect of the programme.
“We are already looking forward to taking part again next year with the new year six class. It has also been amazing to experience the depth of support we receive from our wonderful parents and the local business community.”
Anu Sharma, managing director of Haslemere-based A&N Chartered Accountants, added: “BizSchool has delivered truly practical business insight to young minds.
“It cannot be emphasised too highly how this experience will shape careers to come.”
