CHILDREN from Churcher’s College Junior School were transported back in time when they set off for Milestones Living Museum in Basingstoke.

Soon the pupils from the Liphook school were wandering through Victorian streets - along the cobblestones and peering into the windows of shops to admire the new gadgets and fashions which would have been on sale at the time.

They enjoyed riding on the tram, building a viaduct, sorting luggage and dressing up in Victorian clothing.

The children also met Maggie who took them to her Victorian “back to back terrace” and some of them had a look at the outside privy.

Highlight of the day was exchanging current coins for old pennies and having a go on the penny arcade slot machines – especially when there were sweets to be had.
