WAVERLEY Borough Council is set to open a new inclusive playground for children up to years old on Langhams recreation ground off Ridgway Road, Farnham. The playground has been designed to provide stimulating, imaginative, exciting and safe all- weather play for children, including play facilities that can be used by disabled as well as able bodied children. The playground has been funded with money from the SITA Trust, Surrey County Council Local Network Fund and an additional grant from Waverley Council. The additional funds were raised by a group of local residents who in February 2007 formed the Langhams Recreation Playground Campaign (LRPC) Committee. Members of the committee filled in numerous application forms and awaited deadlines. Several were successful and enabled the budget to be raised to over £90,000. Pan Panayiotou, LRPC chairman, said: "This has been an amazing project to work on. "The playground has had to satisfy many people and what our committee hopes is that the playground is a benefit for everyone in the community and that it enhances play activities on Langhams Rec. He said thanks were due to all those involved, including The Ridgeway School, Waverley's parks and recreation department, local residents and the sponsors. "Without their help and input the project would never have reached completion. It is a great example of what communities can achieve." There will be an official opening of the playground tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am and all who live in the Farnham area are welcome to come and enjoy the "inclusive" playground. Local councillors and MPs will be in attendance and Tesco Express will be providing refreshments.
