CHRISTMAS shoppers in Petersfield are in for a treat tomorrow as the Giant Charity Market rolls into town.

The market returns to its regular Festival Hall venue and will feature more than 70 stalls. Tables will be set up in the main hall, on the stage, in the foyer and in the Rose Room offering festive gifts, jewellery, craft, toys, books, and collectables.

The traditional family-run event is in aid of the Portsmouth Hospitals Rocky Appeal for digital keyhole operating theatres. Other charities raising cash will include the Rosemary Foundation nurses, the children of Chernobyl support group, Petersfield Diabetes, and Petersfield Musical Festival.

Chocolate-filled Santa sacks will be on sale in the Rose Room together with knitted woollens and aprons. East Petersfield Community Group will be represented for the first time and have a stand in the Rose Room, while Petersfield Open-Air Swimming Pool have their popular tombola and will also be selling homemade cakes.

Olive Wood and embroidery from Bethlehem are on sale from the Help Palestine Community Co-op, also new this year.

A number of animal welfare charities have tables too, including the Cat and Rabbit Rescue Centre at Sidlesham, near Chichester, who are in the main hall.

A stall specialising in candles will be set up on the stage and a bargain-priced household goods and stationery stall, together with a vintage furniture display will be in the main hall. Hand-crafted greetings cards and local photography will also feature.

The giant book stand returns to the hall while lots of homemade goodies are on offer from Broadway Park Residents’ Association. A large quilt is to be raffled by Sheet WI in aid of the Rowans Hospice.

Bacon rolls and refreshments will be served in the Rose Room and a raffle for the Rocky Appeal will be held in the foyer. The market will be open between 9.30am and 3pm and admission is free.
