WAVERLEY residents are being enouraged to to recycle their Christmas trees at a number of designated drop-off points from this Saturday.

Real Christmas trees can be disposed of at many of the borough’s parks, to be turned into compost and used on shrub beds.

Local drop-off points include:

* Farnham Park on the bonfire site (GU9 0AU).

* Rowledge Recreation ground car park (GU10 4BP).

* Glendale depot, Bourne Mill, Farnham (GU9 9PS).

Real trees can also either be planted out to be used again next year, or subscribers to Waverley Borough Council’s garden waste collection service can leave them out with other garden waste on the first collection after Christmas.

Synthetic Christmas trees can be taken to recycling centres.

The festive season will see households inundated with items that can be recycled or even reused, from cardboard boxes and empty drinks bottles to wrapping paper and greetings cards.

But residents are asked to remove as much tape as possible and to leave out the heavily glittered or foiled paper, as these can’t be recycled.

Changes to bin collection dates began on Christmas Day and normal collections will resume from Monday, January 7.
