THE annual Christmas tree shredding has been cancelled this year at the Fairground car park in Weyhill and at Beacon Hill. For the last four years, the Haslemere Initiative, in conjunction with Waverley Borough Council, has co-ordinated the shredding of Christmas trees at the Fairground car park at Weyhill and in the car park at Beacon Hill. The industrial shredder is operated by Glendale, the grounds maintenance contractors for Waverley Borough Council, but unfortunately the machine is out of action at the moment and there has not been enough time to find a replacement. A WBC spokesman said: "We do now provide a green waste collection point at the Fairground car park in Weyhill every Saturday so of course trees can be taken there to be compacted in the refuse freighter and then composted." Initiative committee member Robert Serman, said: "The Initiative will review the position in the new year in the light of any comments received from the public."
