FRENSHAM local Harry Glover saw the culmination of much effort, money raising and organisation last Thursday, realising one of his long-term goals.

Over the preceding 48 hours, all eight of St Mary’s Church’s bells were lowered from the church tower and loaded on to a lorry heading for Loughborough to be sand blasted and retuned.

This is, almost, a once-in-a-lifetime activity, last undertaken in 1951.

Mr Glover has been a bellringer for 40 years and has been the tower captain at St Mary’s for nearly 13 years.

It is hoped the bells will be returned in February.
