A TRADITIONAL harvest festival service has been held at All Saints Church in Alton.

The September service was led by Anna Chaplain Helen Jesty, assisted by Debbie Thrower, when the congregation heard the story of Ruth and the Harvest.

Accompanied by Thelma Butland on the piano, the congregation sang ‘We Plough the Fields and Scatter’, ‘Come, Ye Thankful People, Come’, and ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’.

The table in front of the chancel was packed with tins, bottles, packets and jars, plus fresh vegetables and fruit that had been generously donated.

Some donations went to the Alton Food Bank, with the fresh items sold off and the proceeds given to the Anna Chaplain Fund.
