IT was meant to be a sparkling conclusion to a wonderful day of fundraising for a military charity. But a Petersfield school has come under fire for holding a noisy fireworks display at the tail end of the celebratory weekend. Staff at Churcher's College have apologised to residents for the noise and timing of the display that shook the town last Sunday evening. The show took place at 10.30pm and brought the curtain down on the school's Grand Summer Spectacular festival in aid of Help for Heroes. The display, which was pre-announced and advertised, coincided with the final notes of a performance by the Royal Marines Association Concert Band. But the noise and scale of the event also led to an explosive outburst on social media from unaware and sleepy residents. For full story, see this week's Petersfield Herald.
