TUNE in tonight (Thursday) as Churt singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Reuben Gray, attempts to win over the nation’s heart as he takes to the Britain’s Got Talent stage in the live semifinals 2017.
It didn’t take long for viewers to fall in love with Reuben, 16, after he impressed judges during his heartfelt audition back in April, in which he performed one of his original songs, Lifeline, an apology to his girlfriend.
Reuben, who is tirelessly preparing for tonight’s big semifinal final, said: “I am feeling alright but a bit tired, I’ve been rehearsing as much as I can. I feel very excited and so incredibly lucky to be in this position. I am very grateful for this opportunity.
“I didn’t think I would get this far. I thought in my first audition I had no chance. But playing is incredible, I only ever play my own songs. I don’t think it’s easy pulling off other artist’s songs.
“During the process I have met some lovely people and the staff are incredible. They are probably some of the nicest people. Tonight I will be playing my guitar. I am incredibly exited.”
The former South Farnham and Weydon schoolboy made his mark in music at the young age of 10.
After writing his own lyrics, Reuben wanted them to be heard, however, he wasn’t ready to take the limelight just yet and passed the microphone over to his classmates, as he accompanied them on piano.
As well as writing his own lyrics Reuben can play the saxophone, guitar and piano, he has also given the organ a go – all of which he has been trying to fit in within his revision sessions.
As like any other 16 year old, Reuben is also battling it out in the exam world, as prepares for his history exam on Monday: “I finish my exams on the 16th, after that I will be gigging.
“I started busking with my saxophone in Guilford three years ago, where I saved up to buy my first guitar.”
“I never actually started singing until two years ago, I would just write songs for other people. I never thought I could sing until one day at school someone came in told me that I was ‘quite good’.”
Reuben’s latest gigging events include The Mulberry Inn’s 10th anniversary, The Queen’s Head, The Islington, Proud Camden, The Fiddlers Elbow, The Spice Of Life Open Mic Night, The O2 Academy2 Islington, the Bedford – London, The Borderline Soho, Club 85 – Hitchin, LionFest, Hop House 13 – Edinburgh and The Trinity Bar Parlour Party.
Check out his musical talents tonight on ITV from 7.30 to 9pm, or online at www.reubengray.co.uk.
