As the public went to the polls for the general election, voters in the Frensham area were given a separate voting slip asking them to vote on Churt having its own council.
In the Churt ward 76.9 per cent were in favour, in Rushmoor ward 65.4 per cent were in favour and in the Frensham ward 68 per cent voted for the move.
The result from the three wards gives a 71.8 per cent vote in favour out of the 1321 people who voted.
The level of interest in the proposal was also high and in the Churt ward 53.3 per of the electorate voted.
Waverley borough council officials will now prepare a report on the poll which will be presented to the council's executive committee around the end of this month.
If it is approved it will go forward to the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for an order to made to create a Churt Parish Council.
There is speculation that, if approved, the new council will be ready for the parish council election in 2003.
