FORMER Mill Chase pupils, who left the Bordon school in the year Michael Jackson’s Thriller became the best-selling album of all time, gathered together at the The Links Tavern, in Liphook, marking a milestone reunion for the “class of 1982”.

In February Robin Collis, now residing in New Zeal-and and due a visit to British shores, came up with the idea of a school reunion as the class of 1982 would be celebrating a “significant birthday” this coming year.

With the last reunion hosted some 20 years ago, Joanne Stewart-Nash (nee White) decided to take up the challenge of planning the event and, “after much research, coercing, cajoling and thanks to old classmates and the power of social media”, 30 classmates got together, on August 1 - 33 years after leaving Mill Chase school.

“With the motto ‘what’s said in The Links, stays in The Links’ firmly etched on everyone’s mind, there was much to catch up on,” said Mrs Stewart-Nash.

“As the evening wore on, helped by several drinks, memories came flooding back as we started to reminisce about old classmates, teachers, school trips and the antics some of us got up to. Perhaps some embarrassing memories are best left forgotten.

“A special mention was made for our dear friend Bridget Walker (nee Ellis) who sadly passed away earlier this year, and we were joined by Bridget’s daughters Emma and Hannah.

“With the last-orders bell ringing in our ears, and not wanting the evening to end, a group of us decided to move on to the Champagne Bar at Old Thorns - most of whom regretted this decision the next morning.

“From a personal point of view, reunions can bring a mixture of happiness and sadness. They are a chance to catch up with lost friends, to forgive old adversaries and start anew, gather addresses and make promises to stay in touch, and that’s exactly what happened.

“The whole event was such a success that we are doing it all again next year, and have arranged to meet for an 1980s tribute night at Old Thorns. Save the date, May 27.

“If there are any Mill Chase alumni class of 1982 reading this article and you want to be a part of that next event, please contact Joanne Stewart-Nash. You will find me on Facebook or contact me at [email protected].

“Just remember to state your maiden name (if applicable) and enclose a photo. My ageing memory might then stand a chance of remembering you.”
