NEW plans for two replacement warehouses on a site off Station Road have received support from Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council’s planning committee.
SRM Developments wants to use part of the Bleaches Yard Industrial Estate site for a new business restoring and selling classic cars which would be sold over the internet.
A new unit would be used for light repairs and renovation of classic cars, inside the rear part of the building with finished cars stored inside the front part. Cars would be bought online, viewed and collected from the site.
No MoTs would be carried out at the site. The potential occupant already has a classic car renovation facility nearby, and wishes to relocate to the site. which has submitted the application, state the current use on the site would change from B2 to B8 claiming the planning authority is, in principle, in support of the proposal and any regeneration it would produce.
The proposed uses are consistent with the site’s historic use and compatible with the nature of other uses within the industrial estate, sasy SRM.
The site has undergone a chequered planning history between 2013 and 2015, including an application for 13 houses, following demolition of the existing building.
A development for 11 houses was also proposed twice – but refused by East Hampshire District Council and dismissed on appeal. The existing buildings would be demolished and replaced by two new warehouse buildings under the latest proposal.
The new plans would see a warehouse built on a reduced footprint and a second building erected in the area of hardstanding. Both buildings would be sub-divided internally to provide a total of five units if approved.
The site lies within a short walk of Liphook railway station and is adjacent to the Waterloo-Portsmouth line.
It comprises a single industrial building (around 14,712 square feet) set within associated hardstanding to the front and rear, which due to a long period of vacancy and general lack of investment, is in poor condition.
SRM also point out, the site is in an accessible location with nearby bus services and the railway station with plenty of off-site car parking for visitors. Parking for the disabled and bicycles would also be provided.
The application will be decided by East Hampshire District Council’s planning committee in due course.
