REVVING up for a day of classic cars and vintage entertainment for the whole family is the popular Haslemere Classic Car Show and Tour HCCS.
Now in its eight year the event is growing in status every year and has become a traditional fixture at Lion Green. Run under the umbrella of the Haslemere Festival, which hosts many community events in the town, it will take place on Sunday May 29.
The tour takes place in the morning when almost 100 pre-classic cars from the early 1900s to 1976 meet on the green for breakfast, followed by a tour around the surrounding countryside.
They return to the green to join more veteran vehicles; vintage sports cars; post-war family classics and competition cars right up to the 70s super cars, including a good selection of unique and special vehicles.
Those taking part are encouraged to dress in period outfits to match their cars and are eligible for the ‘Best Dressed Car and Driver’ award. The public also vote for the car they would most like to take home in the ‘People’s Choice’ competition, with prizes for the well deserved winners.
During the afternoon, the green plays host to a traditional vintage style fete with a jazz band, children’s activities, food, bar, with cream teas courtesy of Haslemere branch of the Women’s Institute and plenty of stalls selling local produce, crafts, art, vintage and classic car products.
The show attracts visitors from all over Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire as well as further afield.
Entrance for the public is free, but visitors are asked to buy a copy of a lucky programme for £1 listing the cars on display, with a chance to win lots of prizes.
It is organised by Haslemere based classic car restorer and broker James Ewing – see www.james ewing. co.uk/hccs
• Alongside the cars, the HCCS Bake-off Cake competition is back for its fourth year.
With classes for adults and children the competition is free to enter but entrants are asked to donate their cakes to sell to raise funds for the event. Kenwood has donated a K-mix stand mixer as first prize.
Cakes must be presented to the judges on Lion Green by 1pm on May 29. Judging will start soon after and the winners will be announced later in the afternoon.
