EAST Meon could lose its post office if no one comes forward to take the work on when the Riverside Stores and Post Office closes in April.
Frank and Jenny Wheeler, who have been running the shop and post office for the past six-and-a-half years, told the parish council last month that they intended to retire.
Now the entire parish knows as the closure was front-page news on the February edition of the parish magazine, Meon Matters.
ÒWe very much regret that the post office will be closing on April 1,Ó said Mr Wheeler, Òwith the shop shortly afterwards.
ÒJenny and I will miss the fun and laughter we have had with everyone over the years in the business but it is inevitable that we would eventually retire.Ó
East Hampshire district councillor for East Meon, Philippa Tyrwhitt-Drake, said: ÒThis announcement means that anyone wishing to take over the duties can apply to the Post Office to continue the service from their front room, or garage for that matter.
ÒEven if they have no premises, but are interested, then further details can be had from me on 01730 823486 or Mr Wheeler at the post office.Ó
