The awards highlight the efforts of people nominated for going above and beyond the call of duty to improve their town.
As reported in last week’s Herald, the winner of the under-18 category was Mill Chase Academy pupil Ione Upfold, 15, for her work with the East Hampshire Youth Council. Taking home the over-18 award was Carol Anne Dann for her work with the Royal Voluntary Service Lunch Club at Whitehill Village Hall.
Town council leader Adam Carew also presented Steve Johnson with a special-recognition award. Mr Johnson, a war veteran, was the principle organiser in getting the town its own war memorial and Book of Remembrance. He is also the driving force in organising the Remembrance Service on November 11 each year at the town’s war memorial.
Mr Carew also praised the work of those who had been shortlisted for awards, including:
* Lisa Baird - voluntary youth work and leader of Brownies and Girl Guides.
* Sarah Bawtree - voluntary youth work, including with Outreach, and youth club leader.
* Bonny Clark - manager of Bordon’s Cygnets Day Nursery and supporting local charities.
* Jenny Clarke - community ranger with the Deadwater Valley Trust, including promoting “the outdoors to the local community”.
* Fi Edwards - Tesco community champion.
* Steve Johnson - active member of the Royal British Legion, St Matthew’s Church and the War Memorial Association.
