THE Whitehill and Bordon Community Trust is launching a community garden at Mustangs, at Prince Philip Park in Bordon, for residents to grow sustainable produce and plants.

To encourage residents to join the initiative, a launch event will be held on Saturday, March 24, from 10am to midday, at Mustangs, in Budds Lane.

Attendees will have the chance to speak with representatives from the Community Trust about the garden and to contribute their ideas about its development. Children and young people will be able to plant the first vegetables and flowers.

There will be refreshments and residents are encouraged to take donations of new or used tools in a good condition.

The Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company will also be funding a shed for the community in which to store tools and supplies. The new garden has been offered to the community by the Regeneration Company and makes use of a previously vacant piece of land.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging experienced and novice gardeners to plant and grow fruit, vegetables and flowers for the benefit of the whole community.

The gardens also offer a great learning opportunity for young children who will see their crops grow, and will have the chance to eat their own produce.

Hannah Ashwell, Whitehill and Bordon Community Trust manager, said: “The new community garden is a great project for local residents to get involved in. We hope that local people and community groups will enjoy creating and managing their own areas of the garden, as well contributing to the whole space. We’d love to hear from people who want to be involved, volunteer or support this project.”
