A pupil from Badshot Lea has won Farnham in Bloom’s carpet bed design competition, earning her ladybird artwork a spot on display in Gostrey Meadow, reports Anna Carroll.
Schoolchildren were tasked with designing a minibeast-themed carpet bed for the town centre park. The competition inspired many creative entries, with the winning design submitted by Willow, a pupil at Badshot Lea Infants School.
Willow’s work has now been transformed into a living display by Farnham Town Council using a design prepared by InstaPlant.
Councillor Mat Brown, the town council’s lead member for environment, said: “Willow’s vibrant creation features a striking ladybird surrounded by flowers, symbolising the beauty and importance of the small creatures that share our environment.
“Well done to everybody who took part in the competition and a big thank you to Farnham Lions for sponsoring the carpet bed.”
Simon Moran-Smith, president of Farnham Lions, said his organisation had sponsored the carpet bed in Gostrey Meadow for many years and was “delighted to continue supporting this much-loved community feature”.
He added: “The ladybird design is perfect for this year’s theme, and we are especially proud to encourage the creativity of young people in our community through initiatives like this.”
The carpet bed is now on display in Gostrey Meadow for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the summer.
