The Hare & Hounds pub in Rowledge has been made a Sustainability Champion by the British Institute of Innkeeping.
Adrian and AnnMarie Halpin have run the pub since January 2011 and have been making changes to make the venue more sustainable.
LED light bulbs have replaced the incandescent lightbulbs which has improved lighting efficiency by up to eighty-five per cent.
The menu has been adjusted to reduce food waste and customers are asked if they would like to keep certain pieces of food including side dishes so nothing will end up uneaten.
Adrian and AnnMarie have also made positive changes on water usage by installing low-flow toilets, sensor taps and through the use of water-efficient cleaning practices on the dishwasher and glass cleaner machines.
The focus on sourcing local produce for ingredients drops food miles while showcasing the best of the area including drinks.
