ALTON Local Food Initiative has planted 10 more fruit trees at the Jubilee Playing Field.

The planting helps form a community orchard with the produce for all to share.

Alton mayor Derek Gardner and other councillors joined in alongside supporters and the two Alton Town Council groundsmen, Ty and Martyn on March 1.

Martyn had already done much of the hard work by digging out the holes, so everyone helped to plant and stake the trees securely. There are seven apples including a cooker, a russet apple and a juicer, two pear trees and a quince. Daffodils were planted around the trees to honour St David.
