VOLUNTARY organisations are being invited to apply for funding from Waverley Borough Council through its Sponsored Organisation Scheme. Organisations which provide services to the community, either working with the council or in place of services the council may otherwise choose to provide, can apply for 'sponsored' status. Councillor David Munro, who holds the portfolio for partnerships in Waverley, said: "The Sponsored Organisation Scheme allows us to offer valuable support to organisations that provide important services to the people of Waverley. "I am keen that new organisations are given the opportunity to apply for funding next year and I would encourage any organisation which fits the bill to make an application." Waverley Borough Council's executive considered comments from the Community Overview and Scrutiny Committee at its meeting on the Tuesday, October 2. The final approval of the 2008-2009 scheme is subject to agreement by the full council on Tuesday, October 16. Any interested organisations are advised to request the application pack and assess their eligibility now to give as much time as possible to complete their application. Last year a total of over £600,000 was given to 25 organisations, with individual grants ranging from a few hundred pounds to many thousands. Organisations already benefiting from the sponsorship scheme include those providing facilities for young or older people, information and advice services, leisure and the arts, and museums and other heritage services. To discuss whether your organisation may be eligible and to request an application pack with more information, organisations should contact Mike Horlock at Waverley Borough Council on 01483 523257. The closing date for applications is November 5.
