Petersfield yielded their proud unbeaten record, succumbing to a more determined Guernsey XV on the island.
Never really playing as a unit, Petersfield were perhaps complacent after recent successes and although turning round 20-8 ahead, did not play to their game plan in the second half.
Guernsey continually used the tap penalty to get over the gain line and the visitors were thus always on the back foot and having to defend while on the retreat.
Petersfield's points came from tries by Scott Chesney and Dave Holden, with Anthony Lintern adding a brace of conversions and penalties and a drop goal.
"Back to the drawing board," was Petersfield rugby director Mike O'Shea's laconic comment afterwards.
Petersfield still head the Hants 1 table on points difference – they have amassed 200 points in four matches – but now face a difficult home fixture against second-placed Millbrook this Saturday.
Petersfield II 25, Portsmouth III 13. Petersfield's second string turned in a competent performance in their Merit Table match against a strong Portsmouth side. Skipper Colin Campbell had a solid game. and Petersfield took control just before half-time when flyhalf Scott Heffield put Cam Watt in for a superbly worked try.
In the second half, Ali Millar broke through for a second try, before Heffield completed a third with a marvellous 35-metre run. Millar added three conversions and 'Field were well pleased with their victory.
There were good performances from Joe Billyard, and Ollie McCreel, while Mike Garvey, as ever, pulled the pack together.
Petersfield III 30, Ventnor 17. Petersfield thirds, fielding four colts, overcame a weighty Ventnor XV and turned in their best display of the season. Petersfield trailed 5-14 at half-time – their try was scored by Adam Coyte – but applied themselves superbly to force their way back into the game.
Playing without a recognised scrum-half, pressing first Jim Millar and then Ian Chubb into service, 'Field took control in the second half. An electric turn of speed from newcomer Guilliame Guenot earned the Frenchman a try. There followed excellent tries from Andy Willans, Charlie Bevan and Andy Smee. Bevan added a penalty and Nick Todd kicked a conversion.
